Low cost roof mirrors

Hi All

I was hoping someone might be able to help me. I plan to build a simple interferometer, for which I require some 90 degree hollow roof prism mirrors (or alternative roof mirrors) with roughly +- 10 arcsec dihedral angle accuracy. I have checked the usual scientific suppliers (Thorlabs etc) but costs are more than $300 for a one-inch-square component, which is unfortunately too much for this particular project. Is anyone able to recommend a more economic option? Ideally, I am looking for a cost of < $100 per roof mirror. Are they by chance a standard component in any existing mass-produced products?

Many thanks!

In the past I got some surplus optics from Anchor optics... but they got
bought by Edmunds and I think the prices went up.

Phil H. will mention the Surplus Shack.. or Shed. I've never bought stuff from them.

I don't recall the prices, but these folk were relatively cheap, due to
their manufacturing method - see their patents.

If you have tools yourself and the time they are fairly easy to make yourself. Accurate alignment is easy if the mirrors are front surface mounted. Depending on your application a more difficult problem may be phase changes on reflection.

The 10703A is a cube-corner, which may not be appropriate depending
on the applications.

Hi All

Many thanks for the helpful replies. It's definitely a roof mirror (not a corner cube) that I need for this particular application. I will certainly check out PLX. I'm also open to the idea of making one from scratch the target accuracy of +- 10 arcsec can be achieved without excessive pain - is there a good source for fabrication details?

Best wishes

I can help with some fused silica front surface mirrors at reasonable cost.
