I don't know if you read sci-fi, but there is a David Brin novel "Sundiver"
where they pump the excess heat out of a sunship with a laser.

I used to really like Brin back in the day, especially his one about the
spaceship full of dolphins. Haven't read any SF in probably 30 years,
though.
